Teaching my son to drive..... I'm way to YOUNG for this....

I have to say, he is actually a pretty good driver.  We've spent a lot of time in "driving" situations, boats, offroad vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles, he even helped fly a plane once with me! So, he knows engines, throttles, saftey, etc.

I really like the new laws, NO friends in the car until

1 full year after they get their license, insurance is

really expensive unless they have a 3.0 or higher,

the amount of classes they have to take, etc.

It isn't like when we got our license, we got ours the

day we turned 16 and THAT night were out with 4-5

people in the car....(I can't believe I'm still alive)

Thank God those days are over.

Life e-Mix-ed

I've come across a really cool blog location called Life ReMix. It is a location where lots of OTHER great blogs are posted. I honestly doubt mine will ever be there, I'm too busy to have too many really amazing ORIGINAL thoughts!  But, I'm always reading, this place is just great.   Here is a recent blog on how the guy who wrote "Four hour work week" got into the NY Times Best seller list. (um, with a title like four hour work week, I think that would have done it on its own!, I guess not)

Here is another very cool article about doing a one line journal a day

Launching Small Groups, the magic word is relevancy

I am the Adult Ministries Pastor at West Valley Christian Church.  Over the last few years I've been fortunate to help plant a number of small groups, start "electives," start our 101-401 Core Class, facilitate a huge small group financial health series & oversee our ongoing Sunday School/Bible study classes and help find people to lead groups like divorce, substance abuse, etc.

One of the biggest questions I am asked (and believe me, I'm not an expert here) is how to attract new people to a existing group, or start a new group.  One of the best answers is that the material for these studies have to be "relevant."  What does that mean? Isn't just studying the Bible enough?  I hate to say it, but, in todays culture, NO.

Doing an Old Testament study on Ezekial will only attracts established believers who love history....um, those people don't need YOUR Bible study! (not that you can't get something out of a class like this, but it likely won't ATTRACT people. BUT - a series on work, finance, marriage, kids, becoming more like Jesus, these issues are what most people NEED in their life. Here is a great example, "Getting along with People. " http://adjix.com/g7gs  I went thru this and learned a TON.

Top Grossing films of all time financially, FAMILY FRIENDLY

Unfortunately the word "Family Friendly" as it relates to entertainment has become synomynous for "crap" (mostly for the culturally elite) :)   But, as it relates to money, it always is the clear winner.  Myself, Dave Alan Johnson (TV Producer) & Steve McBeth (former president of Disney Interactive) have been working on starting a new media company to focus on producing "family friendly" stuff. Pray for us, it is a huge uphill battle.

Ned Lott passed this on to me recently:

Of the 100 top-grossing films ranked by box-office tracker Media By Numbers,

  • 47 are rated PG-13

  • 32 are PG

  • 13 rated R

  • eight are rated G

Now, animated movies don't fall into this categories. So, if you were to add animated, the top 100 top grossing films would almost completely dominate from PG-13, PG and G. Half of the R rated films listed above would drop out, producing this list

  •

  • 47 are rated PG-13

  • 35 are PG

  • 15 are rated G

  • 6 rated R

So, the question I have is, why do studios produce the amount of R rated films that they do....knowing that they will not be as profitable? There is such a financial risk in producing a film, WHY make it harder?  I think I know, but I will refrain from giving my answer.....

Political Prediction; Obama will be our next president....

I am not going to make my site a political blog, really. But I am going to make a prediction here, our next president will be Barack Obama. I won't share what I think, good or bad, but I'd bet my last dollar on his chances of winning, of even beating Hillary.  http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2007/01/obama_1.html

PopTech Live Webcasting

Interested in great emerging tech?  Check out the conference Pop!Tech. I went last year, very very cool. It is like Demo conference,  but more focused on applications. (also just a BIT cheaper than demo!)   But, now, ANYONE can go. They are streaming some of the presentations online this year.

Cool Presentation:Consumer Generated Media

Last month I got to do a presentation to a mini-gathering from The CEO Forum started by Mac McQuiston. He is a legend. He was one of the first seven guys who started Focus on the Family with James Dobson, just a great guy.

Thanks Mac!

It wasn't a huge gathering, only about 15 guys for 2 days, so I was able get to know them a bit.  While a handful of guys can't be named as they weren't officially representing their company, they were from some of the biggest companies in the world. These are all Christian executives; Pepsi, Chevron, Ford, AEG, Walden, Proctor & Gamble, Fedex, General Mills, Walmart, etc.

You can see my presentations here.  Technology Presentation   Consumer Generated Media (pt 2)
